I am very much in favour of eliminating discrimination, including sexism.  In the first 2 minutes of the following 7-minute video, Christopher Hitchens talked about how "the empowerment of women" is the cure for poverty, and I wholeheartedly agree (the whole 7 minutes is fantastic):

The example sometimes seen in public of women being forced to wear Burkas while all the boys and men they're with can dress comfortably, whilst making fashion statements of their own that are reminiscent of independent thought, is a practice I've observed on numerous occasions among some [obviously] Muslim families here in Canada.  And I dislike seeing it very much because it arbitrarily and incorrectly represents the relegation of women down to being "worth less than men," which I regard as a "practiced disdain for human solidarity."

Although respect is something that is earned, disrespect for someone based on sex, race, nation, etc., is, in my strong opinion, immoral, unethical, and sociopathic.
